5cm x 2cm batten
2cm x 5mm lath
Rufflette Roman Blind Rods
Self adhesive hook and sew-on loop fastener
Rufflette Blind Cord
Rufflette Brass Screw Eyes
Rufflette Brass Cleat and Screws
Rufflette Wooden Acorn |

1. To calculate the fabric required, fix the batten to the top of the window or recess and measure from the top of the batten to the sill. The length of fabric should be the desired drop plus 2cm for the top hem and 7cm for the bottom hem. The fabric width should be the desired width plus 5cm for the side hems.
2. Join widths of fabric where necessary, using a flat open seam. Sew side hems and turn and sew a 5cm bottom hem, leaving one side open to take the wooden lath. The lath gives weight to the blind for smooth operation.
3. With the wrong side of the fabric facing, turn and press a 2cm hem at the top of the blind and sew on the 'fluffy' loop fastener, leaving 3mm between the top of the fabric and fastener.

4. With the hems completed, divide the fabric into folds substituting your own measurements where appropriate. Subtract 8cm from the fabric length. Decide on the number of folds, then divide the fabric . To do this you must work in half fold lengths - see example calculation below in conjunction with Fig 1.
Fabric length = 152cm
Less 8cm = 144cm
Total folds desired is 5
The last fold is always a half fold
The remaining 4 folds = 8 half folds
Therefore the total number of half folds = 9
(NB The total number of half folds is always an odd number)
144cm divided by 9 = 16cm per half fold |
Therefore each full fold will measure 32cm between the lines of tape and the bottom half fold will measure 16cm plus the 2cm extra.
Mark the fabric with chalk where the folds occur to give a guide for sewing.
5. Cut the Roman Blind Tape to the width of the fabric plus 2cm for the side hems. Pin the Roman Blind Tape along the chalk guides leaving a 1cm overhang at each side. If using ivory Roman Blind Tape machine the tape along the blue sewing line, at the top of the tape, starting to sew 1cm in from the edge of the tape. If using Translucent Roman Blind Tape, machine along the top of the tape approx 3mm from the top edge. Turn and hem one end. Repeat to attach the remaining lengths of tape.
NB, Only one sewing line is required, along the top edge.
6. Cut the doweling and lath 1cm less than the width of the fabric. Insert the doweling into a slot at the top of the tape, turn under the excess tape and stitch down the sides. The dowelling can then be removed from the slots for cleaning.
|
7. Each cord should measure 11/2 times the window drop plus the width, which will leave enough cord across the top of the blind and down to the brass cleat. Measure in 2cm from the edge of the fabric and sew on a Rufflette Quick Release Ring to the loop on the bottom Roman Blind Tape. Attach the cord to the ring then thread upwards through the corresponding loops. Thread the remaining cords in the same way leaving a gap of approximately 30cm between each cord.
If preferred Rufflette Blind Clips can be used attached to the loops as cord guides.

8. With the batten fixed to the top of the window recess, insert Rufflette Brass Screw Eyes, positioning them on the underside of the batten in line with each line of cord. Stick the self adhesive side of the hook and loop fastener to the front of the batten peeling away the backing to reveal the adhesive. Mount the Rufflette Brass Cleat on the wall beside the blind using the two brass screws.
9. The blind may now be hung by pressing the two sides of the hook and loop fastener tape together, then threading the cords through the brass screw eyes. Place a Rufflette Wooden Acorn over the cord ends for neatness.
